The videogame market has, in recent years, began a steady stream downward in creativity. For every “BioShock” or “Portal” there are about 10 “Battlefield” sequels and clones.
This isn’t to say that “Battlefield” was a bad game, but to act as more of a commentary on the industry itself, outlining their basic formula – find a videogame that does well, and rape the idea until all semblance of originality is gone. This is the way of things, how it’s been and, most likely, how it will always be.
Right now, the MMO (massive multiplayer online) is the flagship of the gaming industry. The surprise hit that was “World of Warcraft” has led everyone into believing that they can emulate Blizzard Entertainment’s success.
